The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! to release awesomely titled debut LP on David Byrne’s label

on February 24, 2010, 9:45am

A strange band with a really strange name and a ridiculously strange album title will be hitting a small club or bar near you in the coming months (unless you live anywhere near North Dakota, according to a promo video). The New York band, named The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! (see?), is supporting its debut full-length album, called (*deep breath*) I Love You. I Love You. I Love You and I’m in Love with You. Have an Awesome Day! Have the Best Day of Your Life!, which arrives via digital download at the end of the month (hard release May 5th) on Luaka Bop, the label started by David Byrne of Talking Heads fame. The album is sure to be full of excessively fun electro-dance pop anthems sung (or something) by frontman Neil Fridd, who is either drunk, crazy or afflicted with a mild case of Tourette’s.

Although Fridd stresses the importance of the band’s live show, he said in a statement he “wanted to make a band that was a band that people went to concerts of not just because they had good songs or Pitchfork liked them, but because they knew that they would have a fucking blast at their show!” He really means it, too. The U.S. tour, which begins February 26th in New Paltz, New York, will feature Fridd and the band (which tends to include everyone in the room), accompanied by indie punk band The Shakes, doing everything they possibly can to make sure you get your money’s worth. We’re talking audience participation here. Fridd’s statement went on to describe the live show:

Basically we show up with a billion lights, bags and bags of costumes (enough for anyone who wants one), 60 or more light sabers and really good songs, grab some mics and say “look, this is your time; you chose to be here, you probably paid your hard earned money to be here: don’t you dare walk out that door without having the best night of your life!”

Who would pass up a light saber dance party? Also, don’t be shocked to see the frontman adorned in stuffed animals either (once again, see promo video).

Terror Pigeon will begin on the East Coast, covering everything from New Jersey to Florida. The band will head due west from there and make some appearances at South by Southwest and then hit California and Washington for some dates before coming back to the Midwest. The tour finishes off in Montreal April 24th.
