Dream Theater spends the summer with Iron Maiden

on March 10, 2010, 9:45am

After a grand total of 30 albums, including 7 live releases and a soundtrack donation to Nightmare On Elm St. IV: The Dream Warriors, Iron Maiden is still trucking down the line with skeletal Jack-of-all-trades mascot Eddie close to heart; after 35 years under the banner, this British metal act is ready to storm the world again on a grand North American tour with none other than supporting act, 25 year prog-rock mainstay, Dream Theater — a band whose own Mike Portnoy claims, “After 25 years together, at this stage in our career, there’s honestly only three bands Dream Theater would consider opening for and Maiden is one of them. It is an absolute honor.”

That’s some major respect right there (though slightly glazed with an iota of ego). The current tour will cover parts of the US and Canada on a 22-stop rampage “up the fucking irons”, adds Portnoy. Between the orchestral spectacle that is Dream Theater and the wave of rock that is Iron Maiden, no doubt will ears be either bleeding or praying for more. It should also be worth noting, the tour includes one stop at the famous Madison Square Garden, a first for Dream Theater in its lengthy and respected career.

No word yet if Wheatus members will be in attendance.

Tickets for the trek will go on sale beginning Saturday, March 13th. Pre-sales starts today. Hit Ticketmaster.com for more info.
