Despite his often absurdly douchey extracurricular endeavors, Kanye West is regarded as an influential and groundbreaking producer and performer. Soulja Boy made “Crank That (Soulja Boy)”. But to hear Soulja Boy talk to MTVNews.com (via Prefix), you’d swear the two were musical soulmates.
First, Soulja Boy tells tales of Ye being simply blown away at the new found production and lyrical work that is on Soulja Boy’s new album The DeAndre Way, due out later this year.
“When I was in the studio, I played him a couple of joints, and then he just said, ‘Damn, he’s really starting to go hard,'” Soulja Boy said. “And I was like, ‘Yeah, you feel me?’ … Out of all the artists to get the go-ahead or the co-sign from, it was Kanye.”
In fact, West was so amazed that he brought Soulja Boy aboard to work on his new album (you know, the one that’s going to be the best of the decade), where they once again found some of that wonderfully magical chemistry.
“Me working with him, collaborating on different beats. Him showing me a lot of stuff I didn’t know. Me showing him a lot of stuff he didn’t know,” Soulja Boy said. “He had an ear for my sound. Of course I had an ear for all the stuff he did. Genius! You know what I mean?”
This either means we’ve underestimated Soulja Boy or we can expect an Autotuned follow-up to “Kiss Me Thru The Phone”.
Dear god, the possibilities.
