With the anticipation of Apple‘s new iPad, out this Saturday, comes questions about another Apple development, the streaming music service discussed after the December acquisition of online startup Lala. Here’s an update: According to CNET (via The Daily Swarm), Apple has told label managers not to expect any such service until at least the third quarter.
Apple has yet to show evidence of any tinkering with Lala, but the cloud-based service is supposed to let you upload your entire iTunes library to Apple’s server. Lala currently lets you upload mp3’s manually but has discontinued uploading via its Music Mover.
The news that we won’t see a music cloud until July is a bit of a bummer, considering many expected it early in the year — and the iPad launch date would have been a handy time to release it. Perhaps Apple needs some more time to make the service compatible with its sexy new device?
