Matt Skiba finally gives us Demos

on April 23, 2010, 1:00pm

After almost 15 years on the scene, Alkaline Trio frontman Matt Skiba, is finally releasing something of a proper solo album. The album, aptly titled Demos, hits the streets on August 10th via Asian Man Records. It will feature 15 songs that Skiba recorded using Garage Band and is a precursor to another solo set he’s working on with ex-Nine Inch Nails multi-instrumentalist Danny Lohner.

“I’m trying to do something that I haven’t done before,” said Skiba. “I want people to be able to tell that it’s me but I also want to do something that maybe may come as a surprise to some people.”

It should surprise. Despite being pushed back from its original February release date, Demos has managed to elude a significant leak, and Skiba, whose resume includes numerous non-Trio projects, told Spinner that he doesn’t want the “lo-fi” album to be a huge release.

“I want it to come out kind of quietly and be something that people will kind of have to seek out,” he explained.

He’s at the right place. Asian Man records, staffed by Mike Park and one other employee, has only two computers and is run out of Park’s parents’ garage. Mrs. Park even still picks up the mail for her son’s 14-year-old imprint.

No solo tour dates have been announced, but fans without tickets to catch Alkaline Trio on the 2K10 version of Warped Tour can check out this video of Skiba playing “Good Fucking Bye” from his 2002 split single with Kevin Seconds.
