Watch: LCD Soundsystem – “Drunk Girls”

on April 19, 2010, 7:45am

If you’ve already had a chance to check out the legal stream of LCD Soundsystem‘s new album This Is Happening, then you are probably aware that it is satirical and self-deprecating as it is pulsating and awesomely fun. So, when we heard frontman James Murphy was making a music video for lead single “Drunk Girls” that “doesn’t have pictures of vomiting college girls,” it was anyone’s guess what he’d come up with. Today, we found out, and, well, it’s totally, unbelievably awesome.

At first glance, the video looks more like an onset bloopers reel than a high-production extravaganza. Essentially, Murphy’s crew, which includes the band and a bunch of people dressed up in poorly made panda costumes, takes to a full-fledged production studio, complete with multi-colored green screens, and uses it not at all. Instead, the four-minute clip consists of these “pandas” “attacking” a “performing” LCD Soundsystem (and destroying said production studio) with confetti, paint, duct tape, champagne, and fire crackers. Really, you couldn’t have asked for anything more.
