Deadmau5 brings new tour to North America

on May 11, 2010, 1:40pm

Sweaty bodies surround you, bass is pounding through your chest, and a million lights are flickering. To top it all off, a gigantic, blinking mouse is leading the party.

It’s not a dream, and that’s not exactly a mouse. It’s Joel Zimmerman, aka Deadmau5, and he’s about to take you on one the wildest rides you’ve ever been on.

The 29-year-old DJ extraordinaire has announced that after hypnotizing a new breed of ‘Deadhead5’ in Europe, he’s bringing his Daft Punk dwarfing live show back across the Atlantic. (It’s going to be weirder than this?)

Most shows will feature the elaborate, LED mau5head stage which toured the U.K., but others stops will have to settle for a more scaled down version of the spectacle.

Jambase reports that since Deadmau5’s set is so complex, it won’t be present at every stop.  In lieu of the now infamous mau5head, the “unhooked” stops (which still will feature “some sort of production”) are slated to be longer and more diverse.

Starting in the Pacific Northwest, the 24-stop journey shoots the Juno award winner down the west coast, across to Sin City, plops him in some field in Tennessee, then skims him across the Caribbean before dropping him off to play in front of 31,000 fans at Montreal’s Osheaga Festival.

It seems tiring, but Deadmau5 – whose new single, “Some Chords”, debuted last week – will celebrate the end of the tour by taking up a residency at the legendary Amnesia on the island of Ibiza. So much for resting.

Support for the tour has not been announced and tickets for select dates are available via Ticketmaster.com.
