Did Kia rip off The Moondoggies?

on May 18, 2010, 4:30pm

It might not be as blatant as say Kelly Clarkson, the Air Force, or Coldplay, but, as our friend Travis Hay of Ear Candy points out, the music in the new Kia Sorento commerical sounds awfully similar to that of The Moondoggies track “Undertaker”, specifically as it relates to the guitar and melody. Then again, Kia was kind enough to replaces “hums” with “La’s”.

We should note that the Kia song is credited to Steve Webster of Toronto based Rosnick MacKinnon and Webster and is said to be an original composition, written specifically for the Sorento commercial.

The band’s label, Hardly Art, has not yet responded to requests for comment. Perhaps they’re too busy drafting up a letter to Kia. Either way, draw your own conclusions below.
