There’s both good news and bad news for fans of Those Darlins this week. The bad news is baritone ukulele player Nikki Darlin was injured last weekend, delaying the band’s Australian tour with Wagons. The good news is Saturday’s gig at Mercy Lounge in Nashville is still on and will be used as a fundraiser for Darlin’s medical bills.
So how’d the injury occur? Darlin’s cowboy boots got caught in the country field terrain after the band performed at The Nelsonville Music Festival in Ohio. She went down hard and broke both bones in her left forearm. She’ll have surgery later this week and will recover throughout the month of April. While this did postponed their Australian tour, it didn’t cancel it, and Those Darlins plan to announce new dates in the near future. Their scheduled show in Memphis on May 20th has also been moved to July 10th at The Hi-Tone.
However, there is a silver lining in these setbacks. The band’s May 22nd gig in Nashville at the Mercy Lounge is still on, and it’ll be used as a fundraiser to pay for Darlin’s hospital bills. Sponsored by local scenesters Nashvilles Dead, the show will feature a set from the rest of Those Darlins with local musicians filling in for Nikki Darlin. Natural Child, Pujol, and SO Jazzy will also perform. As if that wasn’t enough to draw a crowd, the first 200 will receive a pair of the classic aviator style Blublockers.
To round out the rest of the good news, it looks like Nikki Darlin will recover in time for the band’s U.S. summer tour.
