Wolf Parade drops songs, tracklist, artwork, release date

on May 03, 2010, 11:45am

Aside from guitarist Dan Boeckner’s revelation that Wolf Parade would indeed be releasing a new studio album this summer and the promise that “This is not a fussed-over computer record… There’s almost zero overdubs on the record. So what you’re hearing is pretty much what it sounds like live,” we haven’t really gotten much detail about the Canadian outfit’s forthcoming third LP.

Well, that was until today. Per Pitchfork, Wolf Parade has dropped the release date (June 29th via Sub Pop), tracklist (see below), and artwork (see to your right) for EXPO 86, which, yes, is named after the 1986 World’s Fair. What’s more, two songs from the effort, “Ghost Pressure” and “What Did My Lover Say? (It Always Had to Go This Way)”, have hit the web. You can check those out below, too. So, aside from a full album stream, we now have everything we need.

Plus, frontman Spencer Krug recently sat down with P4k to give a few additional words on his band’s new album.

“I think it’s more fun. We’re embracing our strengths (volume, disorganization), not trying to be fancy, not overthinking anything– just going with our initial instincts and hoping for the best,” explained Krug. “The result was a dozen or so upbeat tunes that we all like playing. The question I asked of most of the songs was whether or not I would dance to them. You know in Archie comics when there’s a school dance and you see little cartoon music notes floating out of the PA speakers? I like to think this new record sounds like those notes.” So to recap, an album named after a World’s Fair will attempt to solve the long lost mystery of what those floating music notes in cartoons sounds like? Alright, sounds good to me.
