After 3 years of protracted anticipation, the release of Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty is finally close at hand. Frankly, we think you should buy it. Already there’s “Shutterbug”: a club ready hit that comes equipped with a unique and funky production, Big Boi’s trademark flow, and even a Soul II Soul reference. Then there’s “General Patton“. It’s…yeah…well, let’s just skip that one for now.
But this time we get “Follow Us” (via Prefix), a cut that avoids the overt self-aggrandizement of “General Patton” and puts himself up on a pedestal naturally. He packs percussive lyircs in so tight that they overflow with little trills, but still bounce over the beat with ease and economy. Not P-, not G-, but ATL-Funk is what this Salaam Remi produced track promises and delivers. The hook dropped by Vonnegutt does its job, though its simplistic directive becomes more irritating than memorable. Check it out below.
Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty is out July 6th on Def Jam.
