Beavis and Butt-head return to save MTV

on July 15, 2010, 5:16pm

Cornholio is making a comeback. The New York Post has confirmed rumors that Beavis and Butt-head, the popular MTV animated series that aired from 1993-1997, is slated to make a return to the network. No timetable has been set, but MTV has acknowledged that new episodes of the show are “in the works.” The news should please those fans of Music Television who have been asking themselves, “Where is the music?”

If you’re not old enough to remember, the show would follow the short shorts wearing losers around town while they slacked their lives away. The best part was when they would sit down in front of the tube and rip into whatever video was playing. While, there’s no telling exactly how they’ll underachieve in 2010, one thing is for sure: MTV has promised that the updated version of the show will only feature current artists. So instead of making fun of Judas Priest’s Rob Halford, they boys will likely head bang to the likes of Mastodon while making fun of Brent Hinds’ face tattoos.

While most remakes end up never holding a candle to the original, don’t worry about a TMNT-esque failure. The report also confirms that Mike Judge – who originally created the cartoon – will be creating the new episodes, and is also likely to again provide voices for the high school outcasts. So the only thing changing about the show will be the videos they show, which means we can still watch the not-so-dynamic duo now make fun of the likes of Lady Gaga and Kris Allen in the same minimalist style of animation.

Mike Judge isn’t commenting and no one knows when the show officially returns, but here’s the video of Beavis and Butt-head making fun of Judas Priest to hold you over until then.
