Lilith Fair cancels 10 dates

on July 02, 2010, 2:25pm

Just three days after rumors began swirling of the impending cancellation of several Lilith Fair 2010 dates, the female oriented, traveling festival has made it official. 10 upcoming dates — Salt Lake City (7/12), Montreal (7/23), Raleigh (8/4), Charlotte (8/6), West Palm Beach (8/10), Tampa (8/11), Birmingham (8/12), Austin (8/14), Houston (8/15), and Dallas (8/16) — have been called off, festival organizers confirmed in an official statement. Concerts scheduled for Phoenix and Nashville were previously canceled. Update: The Atlanta date scheduled for August 8th is also now kaput.

“We are in the midst of one of the most challenging summer concert seasons with many tours being canceled outright,” said Lilith co-founder Terry McBride. “Everyone involved with the tour would like to apologize to the fans and artists scheduled to play in these markets, and express appreciation for all the support for the festival’s return. Lilith remains the only tour of its kind, and we are confident that fans will be amazed by what each date has to offer.”

As previously reported, the festival has experienced sluggish ticket sales since announcing its return following a 10 year hiatus. Despite selling tickets for as low as $10, many of the better seats are on sale for as much as $250, a price which is considered rather high for a one-day festival featuring around 10 acts at each stop.

Refunds for the canceled dates are available at points of purchase. Some of the artists who were set to appear at the canceled Lilith shows may appear on other dates.

In the meantime, the remaining Lilith dates remain as scheduled. Sheryl Crow, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Queen Latifah, Sarah McLachlan, Erykah Badu, Cat Power, Metric, Norah Jones, Tegan & Sara, and Emmylou Harris are among the artists who will be appearing at various stops of the tour.
