Lazerbeak announces debut solo project

on August 23, 2010, 9:05am

Lazerbeak, the beatmaker behind Minneapolis’ Doomtree collective, is finally ready to step into the spotlight as a solo performer. Best known for his recent production efforts for Wale as well as Doomtrees’ P.O.S. and Dessa, Beak’s originally musical obsession was as guitarist and lead singer for The Plastic Constellations. Beak will now combine the polyrhythmic, layered beats he’s developed since entering the realm of hip-hop, with the candid, infectious lyricism that helped gain his former outfit indie credibility.

But Beak is not just falling back on old tricks for Legend Recognize Legend. His solo debut is bolstered by layers of keyboards, live strings, horns, drum breaks, and group vocals. And the album wouldn’t be complete without some the talents of his former collaborators, both members of The Plastic Constellations and the current roster at Doomtree provide instrumental and production support on the release. Check out the single “Salt and Sea” below to get a little taste of Beak’s newest creation.

Legend Recognize Legend drops September 28th, the complete tracklist follows and you can pre-order your copy here. This fall the entire Doomtree crew will embark on a nationwide tour, so look below for you opportunity to witness P.O.S., Dessa, Lazerbeak, and Gayngs live.
