Watch: Of Montreal cover Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” in NYC

on September 20, 2010, 1:40pm

Our own Michael Zonenashvili can attest to Of Montreal frontman Kevin Barnes’ weirdness, but now we’ve got some video to back it up. When Zonenashvili reported that the Athens, Ga.-based band’s sexually charged stage show featured an encore which included a Michael Jackson medley, we sort of expected some full-fledged choreography. While the dancing didn’t exactly match that of other notorious covers, it was entertaining to say the least.

Just check out this video of the band performing the medley at New York City’s Terminal 5 on September 17th.  The clip shows Barnes completely in his element. Dressed in booty shorts, he gyrates and strokes himself while leading the crowd in sing-a-long versions of “Thriller” and “Wanna Be Startin’ Something”. Opening act Janelle Monáe even makes an appearance pseudo-break dancing to the tracks from one of our Top 100 Albums Ever.  The medley gets cutoff as the band starts to play “P.Y.T (Pretty Young Thing)”, but is enough to make us want to get drunk and karaoke on a Monday morning.  Check it all out for yourself below.
