Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Friday releases are a reward for a long week and a chance to celebrate. But how do we get through the week before our hip-hop lord and savior blesses us with yet another gem? How about Wu-Wednesdays? Last week, Wu-Tang Clan member RZA announced the weekly track offering (without a discernible end-date), kicking off the newly-installed tradition with a track entitled “Gone” (which you can enjoy here). Sure, we’re a little behind, but week two sounds like a good place to jump in with the RZA remix to The Kickdrums‘ song “Perfect World” (via Nah Right).
For those unfamiliar, The Kickdrums are NYC-based producer/singer/songwriter Alex Fittsand DJ/producer Matt Penttila. Their rather eclectic sound is right at home layering dreamy guitars as it is in manipulating some funky beat with a turntable. With that kind of pedigree, it’s no secret why The Abbott picked this one from the ether. The original track stands strong as a fuzzy, vaguely dance-rock number built on a sturdy layer of beats and effects. RZA’s verse is a welcomed addition of creepy, acerbic wordplay where the MC sounds vaguely monster-ish. There’s a lot going on in this one, and you’ll be sure to like it all.
As always, stay tuned for more news, including weekly Wu-Wednesday releases (thank God that won’t eat away at our Friday nights.) The Kickdrums new album, Meet Your Ghost, is due out sometime this year.
