New Fatlip song and video, “LA Girl”

on October 20, 2010, 1:15pm

Ever since leaving The Pharcyde and embarking on a solo career, Fatlip has hardly been in the limelight. There was the slightly famous, Spike-Jonze-directed video for “What’s Up Fatlip” in 2000, and then a mildly received 2005 album, The Loneliest Punk, his last major release. That is, of course, until now. The LA-based rapper has recently emerged from wherever he’s been hiding to present the far-out song and video for “L.A. Girl”, produced by Yeti Beats (via Prefix Magazine).

It seems that in the past 5 years, Fatlip has retained his sense of humor and gained a faux-British accent. Backed by some retro synths, a straight-forward beat, and not much else, Fatlip raps with less flow than usual on this track. “Raps” is in fact a generous description, as his delivery bears a striking resemblance to talking.

Is this going to be just another single in a random sea of Fatlip features and collaborations, or should we expect a more substantial release in the future? Only time will tell.
