Smith Westerns Dye It Blonde for sophomore album

on October 28, 2010, 9:35am

Getting signed to and having your debut album reissued by Fat Possum would be a feather in the cap for any band. Now, though, it’s put up or shut up time for the young punks of Smith Westerns as they ready the release of their second album, Dye It Blonde.

Sonically, the foursome have stepped up their game and expanded their repertoire, even going so far as (gasp) adding a producer and recording in a studio. In an interview earlier this month with Pitchfork, frontman Cullen Omori said the band went back in time and across the pond for their influences: “I think one of the main influences was a lot of 90s Britpop. The songs are more involved but are still poppy and still catchy. Oasis, Suede, Teenage Fanclub– those are all really big influences, as well the T. Rex and David Bowie thing.” That sounds bloody wonderful, it does.

Along with the tracklist below, make sure to check out the band’s remaining 2010 tour dates. They’ve got a few shows left in the U.S. before heading over to Europe to open for MGMT. Dye It Blonde hits stores January 18th, 2011 via Fat Possum.
