DJ Premier and Pete Rock team up for joint album

on November 09, 2010, 4:15pm

After the death of Gang Starr collaborator MC Guru earlier this year, DJ Premier has been on a mission to work with the top talent in the game. First, he provided some beats for Kayne West, then the hip-hop legend brought in Blaq Poet, Nick Javas, and Freddie Foxxx for his upcoming solo release Get Used to It, and now Premier is returning to his studio with fellow iconic producer Pete Rock.

Fresh off a West collab of his own, Pete Rock and Premier will split production duties for an upcoming 12-track effort. With 6 tracks apiece to work with, expect a laundry list of high-profile emcees. “It’s going to be so much fun,” Premier told Beats, Boxing, Mayhem, “it’s rare artists in the industry where everyone is going to be like ‘oh shit, how’d you get with him?'”.

Let your imaginations run wild, because Rock and Premier are currently tight-lipped about the possible emcees.  Hell, the duo aren’t even revealing their selections to one another, with the notable exception of Wu-Tang’s GZA, who’ll appear on Premier’s portion of the release.

The duo tentatively plan to have Pete Rock vs. DJ Premier recorded by the end of 2010, but have yet to announce a release date. While we await further news, who tops your list of dream emcees? To play the odds, I’m putting in a nod for at least one Kanye appearance.
