Roc Nation is now home to two MCs named Jay. As announced earlier tonight, much-buzzed east coast rapper Jay Electronica has signed with Jay-Z’s personal imprint, joining already signed acts J. Cole, Willow Smith, and Hugo as members of the recently formed label. What’s more, Miss Info reports Jay-Z and Jay Electronica have already christened the deal by recording a track titled Shiny Suit Theory, which features French singer-songwriter Charlotte Gainsbourg and rapper The-Dream.
Though he has yet to release an official studio album, Electronica has gained a strong underground following thanks to the release of several well-received singles — stream the track “Exhibit C” below — and mixtapes. His resume also includes a tour with Nas and an appearance at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in 2010.
In recent months, there were rumors Electronica had signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label. It’s unclear what the rapper’s first endeavor will be as a member of Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, but we’ll surely keep you updated.
Update: Jay Electronica has just dropped a new track titled “The Announcement” and yes, it features a sampling of President John F. Kennedy.
