Peter, Bjorn & John gear up for new “pop rock” album

on November 03, 2010, 11:30am

Aside from last week’s revelation that Bjorn Yttling was the man behind Lykee Li’s newest single, “Get Some”, we haven’t heard much of anything from Swedish rockers Peter Bjorn & John since the release of Living Things last year. But all that will soon change, as the trio is now gearing up for the release of their sixth studio album.

“We’ve sort of gone back to the beginning,” drummer John Eriksson told Spin in regards to the band’s next venture. After 10 years and five albums, the three men had to ask, “What can we do [now]?” Their answer? Punk. “We originally planned to make a punk rock album,” Eriksson said of the early stages of the recording process, “but listening to it now it’s definitely a pop rock album.”

The trio also added to their creative team, recruiting producer Per Sunding to expand their musicality and infuse some new blood into the album’s 11 tracks. Sunding added another influential ingredient to the process: booze. According to Eriksson, the track “Tomorrow Has to Wait” is about getting drunk because “that’s what we were during recording.”

Aside from a tentative early 2011 release date, few details are known about the LP. Per the band’s Twitter, they were still trying to formulate an official album title and cover as of late September. So go ahead and leave the guys a few suggestions. The trio also makes one impressive promise via tweet: “Our new album is so powerful that u will get an electric shock by looking at it!”
