RZA not touring with Wu-Tang Clan, seems busy

on November 16, 2010, 12:40pm

Though news just came out that the Wu Tang Clan is hitting the road with the focal points all secured for a month long trek, it looks like some posters might need redesigning, as RZA, their producer and virtual leader, has announced that he will not be on-board.

HipHopDX reports that RZA, in an interview with The Boombox.com, made the following admission: “Well, I gotta be honest about the tour. I have too much business going this quarter, so I won’t be on the tour,” he said. “I’m going to try to join those guys during the springtime, though. Wu-Tang is coming to a lot of towns across the country, and you know they’ll leave their mark. I won’t be there, unfortunately.”

Though this is a bummer with a wonderful silver lining (that vague business), is anyone else more struck by the fact that RZA refers to periods of time as “quarters”? Also, does anyone else have a mind that immediately thinks “Coachella!” whenever anyone says anything about touring in spring?

Also of note in the story is HipHopDX’s insinuations that this points to possible trouble in the Wu camp, stemming back to 2007. Thought this is a reaching theory, RZA seems to debunk it preemptively in the actual Boombox story, where he says,

“On stage, it falls back on the first night. We get on stage and everybody becomes these superheroes. Behind the scenes, it takes a few days. You know, they say you are what you eat, and I believe that’s mental and physical. If everyday I’m thinking about police, I’ll want to act like a cop eventually. Because we don’t hangout with each other everyday, it doesn’t come immediately. Everyday, I’m hanging out, I’m acting, I’m different characters, but when I get back around my crew, it takes a little time to get back to that personal thing, but it’s always there, yo. It’s a true blessing.”

Yeah, he doesn’t seem to hate them. I think he’s just, you know , busy. Check out the remaining members (, and ) on the Rebirth Tour at the dates below.
