What started as a reunion to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their breakout record Something to Write Home About is shaping up to be a full on comeback for the boys of The Get Up Kids. The emo luminaries recently announced plans for their first studio album since 2004. Now comes word that the band will tour to support that album, There Are Rules, beginning early next year.
Though the CD doesnt hit the racks or iTunes until the 25th, the five-piece will be showing off the new music starting January 21st in Houston, TX. The tour will hit 14 venues, including one in Austin, TX actually named Emos (emo music at Emos…), and all dates are set to be all ages. Steel Train and River City Extension will be tagging along to provide support. A pre-sale will commence on November 12th, while regular ticket sales open on the 18th.
Youll notice that all the venues are out in the West. There isnt even a hometown Kansas City show on the schedule. Dont you mid-Westerners and Easterners get all uppity, though, because the press release says a second leg will take place in late February and into March, with details to be forthcoming. Check out the dates for the first leg below, and be sure to check back for information on the second half as it becomes available.
