Paul Simon adds intimate club dates to spring tour

on March 29, 2011, 11:08am

Paul Simon, who has spent half-a-century as a beacon of folk and world music, has added a handful of club shows to his forthcoming spring tour (via BrooklynVegan). Before summer hits, Simon will get cozy with fans preceding or following previously scheduled stops at larger theaters in Seattle, LA, Oakland, Toronto, Chicago, D.C., and Boston with a performance at one of those youth halls where you have to stand up the whole show. Check out the new dates in italics below.

Recently, Simon spoke with Rolling Stone about the perks of adding these new dates at the smaller venues, stating: “I want to play several songs from the new album and music from my repertoire that I either haven’t played in concert or have played very seldom.” He added: “I’ll play a few songs by other people, maybe a couple of Simon and Garfunkel songs. And then late in the evening, who knows, I might pick up my acoustic guitar and sing whatever comes into my mind. That’s the fun of clubs — it’s looser.”

If you want to unbutton your collar with Simon at The Vic, Music Box, 9:30 Club, or the other club dates, tickets will go on sale for most of the new shows this weekend. Given that the majority of his previous dates have sold out, it’s safe to assume that these will most likely be grabbed up right-quick. Fingers at the ready, Simon acolytes!
