Ryan Adams readies European tour, new album

on March 17, 2011, 12:40pm

Contrary to popular belief, shit does happen during SXSW music week. Legends die, artists plan charity concerts, and one of the most perplexing men on Earth announces a collaborative album with an equally mysterious rapper. Just take a look here and see what I mean. Not one to be left out of the conversation, Mr. David Ryan Adams has announced (via Facebook) that he’s going to do something that he hasn’t done in a while: Tour.

That’s right, the guy who spent his “hiatus” painting, performing nostalgic duets with his wife, and recording a metal album before releasing it on his own record label will hit embark on a three-week, solo European journey that kicks off with a June 10th visit with all the Swedes in Stockholm. The rest of the 11 dates take the 36-year-old alt-country elder statesman to Norway, Portugal, Denmark, The Netherlands, and other various locales in the United Kingdom.

American fans whose feelings are hurt as a result of the lack of U.S. dates can take solace in knowing that Adams is also planning on returning to the studio to record on an album of new material. What’s even better is that he’s tapped legendary producer Glyn Johns to help him out. Johns is the man behind a slew of classic records like the Rolling Stones’ Satanic Majesties Request and Beggar’s Banquet, Eric Clapton’s Slowhand, and several LPs by The Who.

Ticket prices for the Swedish shows are roughly $60 USD and complete ticketing info is available here. Flights to Sweden start at $700 – hope you got your tax return early.
