TV on the Radio – "Will Do"

on March 23, 2011, 5:42pm

Most of you born after 1990 will probably scratch your head at this reference, but here we go: How many of you ever wanted to build a virtual reality helmet with your Erector set as a kid? No? Well, apparently TV on the Radio‘s Tunde Adebimpe did. In the video for the band’s current single, “Will Do”, he and the rest of the band find themselves plugged into these homemade-like devices, where each of their individual passions are readily available, only they soon discover it’s never as good as the “real thing.” Visually, the video’s sunny, and oddly sanguine, despite the anti-technological metaphors it has going for it.

Come to think of it, between this and The Cars’ new video for “Sad Song”, there seems to be this movement against technology gestating in the music scene? Or, perhaps this writer’s just reading too much into it. Nonetheless, grab a Nestea, sidle up to a nearby window (that is, if the sun’s pouring in), and enjoy this warm, summer-esque video from TV on the Radio.

By the way, the band’s fourth entry, Nine Types of Light, drops April 12th. Pre-order?
