If a list were to be put together of the most well-established and solidly beloved indie acts, undoubtedly both The Hold Steady and The Mountain Goats would make an appearance. So, perhaps as a means of celebrating their commonalities, The Hold Steady’s frontman Craig Finn joined John Darnielle and company on stage during the Goats’ performance at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom last night. Performing the Goats’ song “This Year” off of 2005’s The Sunset Tree, Finn and Darnielle trade off on vocal duties, even belting it out together at several points. Just call them the indie David Bowie and Mick Jagger. Let’s just hope, unlike them, they don’t get too saucy behind closed doors.
