Alicia Keys readies 10th anniversary reissue of songs in A minor

on April 15, 2011, 5:30pm

This year, Alicia Keys celebrates the 10th anniversary (has it been that long? Christ!) of her 2001 debut, songs in A minor. If you recall, the then 20-year old Keys turned heads in the industry when the album hit number one, sold over 12 million copies, and garnered five Grammy Awards, including trophies for Best New Artist and Best R&B Album. Overnight success? Something like that. Now, the recent mother plans to expand on her seminal artistic work…

Set for release June 28th via J Records/Legacy Recordings, fans can choose from either the two-disc Deluxe Edition or the three-disc Collector’s Edition. According to a release, each entry features special packaging and an enhanced booklet with new liner notes courtesy of Keys, plus six bonus tracks: “A Woman’s Worth” remix featuring Nas; “Juiciest” (Mix Tape Version), “Fallin” (Ali Soundtrack Version), the previously unreleased “Typewriter”, “If I Was Your Woman” (Original Funky Demo Version) and ”Butterflyz” (The Drumline Mix). The Collector’s Edition will also include a previously unreleased documentary with Keys and other album collaborators reflecting on the making of the acclaimed work. For the first time, the album will also be available as a vinyl. More details on the individual editions forthcoming at Keys’ website.

Keys will commemorate the release with a performance at the BET Awards on June 26th, an intimate concert at New York City’s historic Beacon Theatre on June 30th, and an hour-long special on Keyes and songs in A minor airing on the BET network in late June around the release. The Beacon Theater concert, entitled “Piano & I: A One Night Only Event With Alicia Keys,” will feature Keys accompanied only by her piano. Tickets will be available via digital retailers starting May 6th.
