About 13 minutes after Radiohead unleashed their eighth LP, The King of Limbs, some fans began speculating whether there was more to the story. Within days, a website documenting the many conspiracy theories popped up, and the band’s noticable silence in the weeks following the release only fueled the fire.
But now, Ed O’Brien has put an end to the rumors. The Radiohead guitarist confirmed to BBC 6 Music that there is no King of Limbs, pt. 2 in the waiting. “There are [other] songs that we have started, that we never finished, but there’s not like seven or eight finished songs waiting in the wings to be released now, or in the autumn, or something,” explained O’Brien.
“When we start a new record, we tend to start afresh. It’s kind of an evolutionary thing – only the fittest survive.”
Still, all is not lost. As previously reported, the band will unveil two previously unreleased songs on Record Store Day (April 16th) in the form of “The Butcher” and “Supercollider”. According to O’Brien, the former is from the King of Limbs sessions, while the latter was “recorded during that period and finished off after the album came out.” The 12″ single is limited to the U.K., Europe, and Japan.
