Perhaps there is no better artist than Jeff Buckley to make a biopic about. His life reads like a greek tragedy: a tortured hero with a famous father he never knew reaches enormous heights before a self-imposed exile ultimately results in an untimely disastrous conclusion — and the crazy part is that’s barely hyperbole. So it comes as no surprise that, according to Deadline, a film is in the works, set to start rolling this fall.
Director Jake Scott (Welcome to the Rileys) – yes, the son of Ridley – will step behind the lens, working off a script by Ryan Jaffe of The Rocker fame. For those concerned about accuracy, Buckley’s mother Mary Guibert will act as a consultant to the project. Potentially the most crucial factor: The film will have the rights to the entire Buckley catalogue, which one might say is incredibly valuable.
Details are still forthcoming, as is the cast (James Franco, anyone?), but we’ll let you know as it comes.
