Josh Homme writes new theme for Aqua Teen Hunger Force

on April 26, 2011, 7:10pm

Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme is a badass rock and roll mofo. But as he revealed with his remix of Samwell’s “What What (In the Butt)” last June, he’s also not afraid to let the goofier aspect of his not-so-inner stoner vibe shine through. Now, as if retooling one meme wasn’t enough, Homme is adding more of his musical talents to the oddball, absurdist pop culture canon by creating the theme to the upcoming new version of Adult Swim’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force (via Pitchfork).

The boys of ATHF, Master Shake, Meatwad, and Frylock, will now be getting involved in all sorts of kooky adventures and side-splitting shenanigans as Aqua Unit Patrol Squad One. While the old show was soundtracked with the rap stylings of Schooly D, a new era calls for a rocking intro. Co-written by Homme and long-time collaborator Alain Johannes, their offering is like a swinging ’60s spy movie theme, if you dropped a couple hits of acid prior to listening to it in your Nana’s guesthouse. Check the track below in its entirety.

In related news, Josh Homme will appear in a forthcoming episode of Travel Channel’s No Reservations, according to the show’s Twitter account. There’s even a picture to prove it!
