Stream: Okkervil River’s I Am Very Far

on May 02, 2011, 8:49am

Okkervil River frontman Will Sheff has said that the interview process that almost always accompanies the release of a new album reminds him of autopsies that make his records look like “piles of guts,” and while that sentiment is a bit disgusting, what’s more disturbing is the way National Public Radio has infiltrated the lives of the 18-35 year old demographic.

Yes, somehow the station that parents used to blast during morning rides to school has now become, well…hip. Case in point: Last week saw NPR deliver full streams of albums from both Fleet Foxes and The Antlers, and now the folks at the non-profit media organization have posted  all 51 minutes of Okkervil River’s latest effortI Am Very Far – for consumption a full week-and-a-half before it officially hits streets and store shelves. What’s more is that the stream comes on the heels of NPR’s broadcast of the band’s performance of the full, 11-track LP at the Cactus CafĂ© in Austin, Tex.

The band just wrapped up a gig at the Gexa Energy Pavillion in Dallas, and is set to take a short break from the road before embarking on a month-long tour that takes them to the Northeast, across the Midwest and center of the country before dropping them off in the Pacific Northwest to play a love Canadian date in Vancouver on June 20th. There are 23 dates total, and the whole thing wraps off with a June 28th show at Jake’s in Lubbock, TX.

Stream the entire album here, and if you like what you hear then go ahead and preorder the album at Those of you who are cut from the “I prefer to pirate my albums” cloth can still support good music by going to see the band live – tickets for select dates can be had here, and tour dates are listed below.
