It’s been a banner week for OFWGKTA: They played a sold-out East coast tour, which devolved into a riot at nearly every stop, and MC Earl Sweatshirt (or his Mom) delivered his first public comments since being shipped away to the Eastern Pacific last fall. Oh, yeah, and amidst all that, the group’s de facto god, Tyler the Creator, released his major label debut, Goblin, which pushed an incredible impressive 45,000 copies in its first week. That number was good enough for #5 on the Billboard Top 200.
For context sake, Wale’s Attention Deficit, another much hyped hip hop release that was released by Interscope and featured guest spots from Lady Gaga, Pharrell, Bun B, and more, sold just 28k copies in the first week of its 2009 debut.
As for the week’s other big winners, The Lonely Island earned the #3 spot for their latest LP, Turtleneck & Chain, selling 68,000 albums. And once again, Adele’s 21 topped the charts, moving another 156,000 copies and bringing the total number of albums sold to 1.7 million.
