In life, it’s not about what you do, but how you do it. Take, for instance, Eminem and Lil Wayne and their “odes” to their adoring fans. Eminem’s classic “Stan” is a haunting look at the perils of fame and the dangers of obsession. Following in his buddy/collaborator‘s footsteps, Weezy continued to open up to the world on a whole new level of artist-fan interaction with the track “Dear Anne (Stan Part 2)”.
In the Swizz Beatz-produced track, which reportedly didn’t make the final Tha Carter IV tracklist, Tunechi writes a letter to a fan whilst someone gently tickles the ivories (the cut samples t.A.T.u’s “30 Minutes”). But while Em’s version was a reality check, Wayne’s letter sees him pour his heart out to his No. 1 fan in regards to his own obsessions and unrelenting efforts. Between this and “How To Love”, we’re starting to think Weezy is leaving the sizzurp behind for good.
