How many remixes of the same song can happen before it gets just plain silly? Apparently more than a few. Just check out The Weeknd’s take on “Trust Issues” and hold on because the explanation gets rather confusing. The three-minute remake from The Weeknd is actually a remix of a Drake reimagining of a Drake song, “I’m On One”, which originally appeared as the second single from DJ Khaled’s Cash Money debut, We the Best.

It may take more than a few re-reads of that sentence to fully understand what’s going on, but it won’t take that much effort to get sucked into the cut, which Pigeons and Planes posted on Saturday night. The Weeknd – the project of Toronto-based crooner Abel Tesfaye – keeps Drake’s hypnotizing instrumental mostly intact, but utilizes the man’s seductive delivery to make taking drugs and not trusting romantic interests almost sound irresistible. Tesfaye doesn’t rap on the track, and we don’t know if “Trust Issues” will appear on an upcoming mixtape tentatively titled, Thursday, but it is streaming in all of its glory below.
