Crowded House frontman starts Pajama Club

on June 08, 2011, 12:27pm

And you thought Crowded House was a strange band name. The frontman of the Australian pop group, Neil Finn, has put together a collective called Pajama Club (changed from Pajama Party for legal reasons). The band consists of New Zealanders Finn, his wife Sharon, and indie artist Sean Donnelly. On tour, Pajama Club will feature drummer Alana Skyring, formerly of Grates.

Pajama Club is already scheduled to play the United States as soon as later this month, and has plans to release its eponymous first album September 13th on Lester Records/Redeye. Reportedly, the band’s sound will consist of Sharon and Neil switching off vocal duties over an amalgamation of garage rock and (surprise, surprise) synthy electronic noises, courtesy of Donnelly.

Pajama Club’s album resulted from the husband and wife team jamming at home while wearing P.J.’s and drinking wine. If only we could all find such chemistry in our spouses. Anyway, Neil eventually layered some songs he played with Crowded House on the band’s 2009 tour, and sent them to Donnelly for some modernization.

As far as touring goes, Pajama Club will be on the East coast for a U.S. tour starting June 23rd in Alexandria, Virginia. PC will play Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival the next day, and round it out in New York, Fairfield, Connecticut, and Chicago. The band will head to the U.K. for June, and come back to America for some West Coast dates in August. Check back at the band’s site often, because PC claims it will announce more shows each week.

While you’re at it, feel free to stream and/or download album track “From a Friend to a Friend” right here. The currently confirmed tour dates are below.
