We’ve known for quite some time that the Foo Fighters have a sense of humor — just take a look at their videography (especially last week’s “Walk”, which may be the best music video in quite awhile). But, year after year they continue to surprise us. Lately, as you may have guessed, Dave Grohl and his ragtag crew have been touring relentlessly, all in support of their seventh LP, Wasting Light. Being on the road, away from home, tends to get complicated. However, these guys are keeping it real — at least if their tour rider is any indication (via The Smoking Gun).

In a hilarious tongue-in-cheek introduction, tour manager Gus Brandt writes, “Check out the attached pages and take them at least seriously. If we’ve offended you then you probably weren’t that bright to begin with,” going on to quote Ted Knight from Caddyshack, stating, “The world needs ditch diggers.” Priceless. From there, it gets even more perverse, digressing on in the form of a children’s coloring book, titled Foo Fighters Field Guide to Food: Coloring Book and Activity Pages. No, seriously. Animated members of the band instruct the difference between good food and bad good, there’s a crossword puzzle flooded with the “don’t’s” of catering, a handy maze for caterers (“‘Promotor'” pasta does not rock,” an illustrated Chris Shiflett warns), and even a complete diagram on…ice. All in all, it’s something you have to see to believe — sort of a proverbial “eighth” wonder of rock ‘n’ roll — so take a gander.

If the behind-the-scenes work is that exciting, you can only imagine what they’re like on-stage. Check out the “precious grunge quintet”‘s current tour itinerary and see if they’re rolling through your town…
