on June 30, 2011, 3:46pm

Sort of like that Elliott Smith compilation from last year, Patti Smith is readying a singles collection that is billed as “perfect entry point” for new fans. After all, Law and Order: CI appearances can only take you so far.

Titled Outside Society, Columbia/Arista/Legacy will release the 18-track effort on August 23rd. Smith is said to have hand-picked all the material and the included tracks span her entire discography, from “Because the Night” to her cover of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. The album will also come packaged with a booklet that contains “brief recollections of each song written by [Smith].” The complete tracklist is available for viewing below.

Smith only has a few tour dates scheduled for the rest of the year, but they include high-profile appearances at the Hop Farm and Escape to New York music festivals.
