malkmus contest Help Stephen Malkmus write an FCC friendly version of new single Senator

Think of it as the shortest, most awesome mad lib in history: Stephen Malkmus is currently in need of a radio-friendly version for his new single “Sentator” (hear the album cut below). So, what better place to look than fans scattered across the interweb? Currently, the lead single for the forthcoming Mirror Traffic LP features the line “I know what the senator wants – what the senator wants is a blowjob,” and while the statement may be based in fact, it will definitely eliminate radio spins. Instead of simply editing out “blowjob,” Malkmus and Matador Records have set up an online contest here for fans to submit a replacement lyric that radio stations can air.

The deadline for submissions is August 23rd, at which time Malkmus will sing the winning entry for the radio single. The winner will be notified September 15th, as the single hits the airwaves, and receive a one-of-a-kind 7″ single featuring the radio version of “Senator” on one side, and the original version on the flip – the rarest Matador release ever.

Mirror Traffic officially drops August 23rd via Matador.
