The Who details Quadrophenia box set, 2012 tour plans

on July 28, 2011, 3:16pm

As previously reported, The Who’s Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend have been working on different projects, both involving some of the band’s more celebrated material. The former is in the middle of a world tour where he is revisiting the 1969 rock opera Tommy. The latter has been restoring his personal demos of the band’s 1973 album Quadrophenia, which will be released in a box set. According to Gigwise, the end result of Townshend’s efforts will come just days after Daltrey caps off his world tour. In even better news, the two plan to reunite in 2012 and tour behind the release.

Due for release on November 14th, the Quadrophenia box set will include a re-master of the original double album, Townshend’s previously unheard demos, an exclusive eight track 5.1 sound DVD, a deluxe hard-back book, previously unseen personal notes, photographs, memorabilia, and other exclusive material.

As for a 2012 tour, Townshend wrote on his blog: “The reason I am not on the road with Roger is that this is entirely Roger’s adventure, one that is bringing him great joy… I don’t belong on this Tommy tour. I wish him well, sincerely, and I look forward to playing with Roger again doing Quadrophenia next year.”

Townshend also added that his hearing problems have improved of late. “My hearing is actually better than ever. Because after a feedback scare at the O2 Indigo in December 2008 I am taking good care of it. I’m 66, I don’t have perfect hearing, and if I listen to loud music or go to gigs I do tend to get tinnitus. DON’T WE ALL????”

We’ll have more details on The Who’s new box set and tour plans once they become available. In the meantime, you can find Daltrey’s remaining Tommy tour dates below.
