A “red-letter day” is a day of special significance. How fitting is it then that Washington, DC-based musician James Thomas would call his experimental indie-folk project The Red Letter. Because the day anyone wraps their ears around Thomas’ chaotic yet evocative blend of fuzz and folk, it’s truly a day worth noting.
In order to celebrate the occasion, CoS is premiering the track “Let’s Get Breakfast”. Taken from the his self-released debut EP Let There Be Here, the song is the perfect summation of the artsy yet rural sound Thomas has cultivated. Powered by a rollicking drum and guitar combo, the track built for an anarchist’s hoedown demonstrates Thomas’ earnest vocal stylings, which range from sweet whispers to manic screams. The beauty is that as bi-polar as the whole ordeal sounds, everything works together in harmony.
