Even though The Gaslight Anthem’s Brian Fallon has been busy with The Horrible Crowes, that doesn’t mean New Brunswick, NJ’s best export (after Bon Jovi and grease trucks) still isn’t active. On December 13th, iTunes will release the iTunes Session: The Gaslight Anthem, and like the various medical facilities that call New Brunswick home, this EP is healthy with content.
Recorded on July 25th, 2011 at NYC’s Magic Shop, the six-track effort (track no. 7 being an interview with the band) features one unreleased track in “Our Father’s Sons” and a reimagining of American Slang‘s “Boxer”. The meat of the album, though, comes in its covers of The Who’s “Baba ORiley”, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ “Refugee”, The Animals’ “House of the Rising Sun”, and Pearl Jam’s “State of Love and Trust”. That last cover is available for streaming now at RollingStone.com and is equal parts rocking jam and faithful tribute.
Pre-orders of the EP are available now (get yours here), and includes a new version of “The Navesink Bank” from 2007’s Sink or Swim.
