There are plenty of unique releases set for Record Store Day Black Friday, but Narnack and Greatminds Records have partnered up for a truly meaningful contribution. Amassing a diverse collection of musicians from the Los Angeles scene, they’ve put together Beat LA, a compilation of equally varied covers of classic artists from the SoCal region. What’s more, proceeds from all sales benefit Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières in their continued aid endeavors in earthquake-torn Haiti.

For a taste of the album, have a listen to Imaad Wasif’s rendition of The Doors demo “Go Insane”, featuring Best Coast’s multi-talented Bobb Bruno. Known for his blend of folk and blues rock with psychedelic currents, Wasif takes his orders from the song’s title. Together with Bruno, he takes the spiraling, plinking keys and the bizarre, yelped vocals of young Jim Morrison and transforms them into a lush, dark rock number with squealing guitar riffs. Check it out below.

Beat LA will be available on RSD, November 25th as limited edition double LP. See the complete tracklist below. It is currently available digitally on iTunes, with proceeds again going to DWM/MSF.
