Nashville rock band PUJOL‘s track “Mayday” is the defining cut off their Saddle Creek debut EP, Nasty, Brutish, And Short. But as far out as the rocking, transcendental punk number is, it’s the song’s music video that takes the cake for being most bizarre. In the clip, frontman/namesake Daniel Pujol and a friend spend the day competing in various amicable games, including a spirited round of cards and some harmless knifeplay. Because, hey, what’s a stab wound between friends?

However, like everything the band does, there’s greater subtext just below the surface, with the competition begetting “something between the two parties involved,” explain Pujol, “like a music video or human synergy, as opposed to the brinksmanship and funky power struggles of a zero-sum game for exclusive wieners and losers.” Wax philosophical as you check out the clip below.

The Nasty, Brutish, And Short EP is out now.
