The 84th Academy Awards is really shaping up. Axel Foley is out, but Mr. Saturday Night is in, and now Hans Zimmer and Pharrell Williams have been tapped as music consultants for the ceremony, as Reuters reports. Perhaps Johnny Marr was busy?
Producer Brian Grazer, who alongside Don Mischer handles production for the Oscars, issued a statement on the decision, writing: “Hans is one of the most accomplished and creative film composers of our time, and Pharrell is a phenomenal songwriter with an amazing list of credits. This is an exciting and prestigious collaboration that promises to take the audience on a musical journey.”
Zimmer won previously for his work on The Lion King, and is also an eight-time nominee. His score for last year’s Inception is his most recent Oscar nomination. Williams, on the other hand, has received two Grammy wins for his previous production work with Justin Timberlake and Ludacris. So, yeah, this should be interesting.
The 84th Academy Awards is set to take place Sunday, February 26th at Hollywood’s Kodak Theater.
