Following in the footsteps of Grizzly Bear cohort Chris Taylor, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Daniel Rossen will release his debut solo EP, Silent Hour/Golden Mile, on March 20th via Warp. Rossen, who also makes up one-half of Department of Eagles, recorded the five-track effort in various rehearsal rooms and small spaces across NYC.

Rossen originally wrote the EP’s songs as demos for Grizzly Bear, but soon found something else within the collection worth exploring outside the confines of the band. “When you spend so much time touring around, you can lose perspective on what you’re trying to do,” he explains in a press release. “All the sudden, I had no idea what to do or what to make or anything. These songs were a way for me to figure that out again, getting my legs back.”

For an early preview, Rossen has released the track called “Saint Nothing”. A low, almost pained piano begins the journey, with Rossen’s rich, methodical vocals kicking in after a few minutes. Though the track spends much of its time in a hazy lull, the closing momentary musical spike, aided by vintage horns, feels all that more special. Find the stream below, followed by the EP’s tracklist.
