Audiography: Episode 028: “Common”

on March 07, 2012, 4:00pm

Welcome to the newly expanded Audiography!

In this edition of Audiography, we recap music’s biggest news and feature reviews of the latest releases by Andrew Bird, the Magnetic Fields, and School of Seven Bells. I also talk with Common, the rapper, poet/philosopher, and actor. We discuss his album The Dreamer, The Believer and working with his father as well as poet Maya Angelou and the producer No ID for the first time since 1997. We talk about his acting career and its effect on his music and his decision to retain the name Common for both fields. I also ask him how he manages to stay above the fray and deliver his message without sounding sanctimonious or preachy.

Featured Music:
01. Andrew Bird – “Danse Caribe” (excerpt), “Eyeoneye” (excerpt)
