In a recent interview, Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino revealed that Fleetwood Mac’s influence played a vital role in the creation of the duo’s upcoming album, The Only Place. Now, as an homage to the legendary rock outfit, Best Coast have recorded a cover of “Storms” (from 1979’s Tusk), which premiered earlier today on BBC Radio 6’s Radcliffe & Maconie show. The cover is perhaps even more simplifed than any Best Coast original, surviving solely on the impassioned strum of an acousitc guitar. Cosentino’s vocals, though, are lush and intricate, demonstrating newfound levels of effervescent vulnerability and heartache. Stream it at the BBC’s website (skip to the 58:10 mark).
The “Storms” cover will be released as a vinyl 7″ available only at independent record stores. The Only Place hits stores on May 15th via Mexican Summer.
