“Homewrecker” Marina Lambrini Diamandis, a.k.a. Marina and the Diamonds, drives a spike heel straight into the middle ground between Lady Gaga and fellow Welshwoman Ellie Goulding with a heart-shaped beauty mark, blond curls, and the voice to back it all up. Her drop-top backbeats and voluptuous vocals snagged the glamazon opening spots on both Katy Perry and Coldplay‘s summer tours, and now her latest single, “Primadonna”, has caught the attention of another high-wattage musical outfit.
Octopus is a relatively new production team made up of John Hill (Santigold, M.I.A., Lykke Li) and Rich Costey (Nine Inch Nails, Muse, TV On the Radio), and the duo recently unleashed a remix of “Primadonna”. They replace the original’s hard synthesizers with disco blips that twirl around Marina’s verses about having her cake and getting him to buy a big diamond ring for her, too. In doing so, Octopus takes Marina and the Diamonds to the next level, from just another pop star to “Dancing Queen”. Check it out below.
Marina and the Diamond’s sophomore release, Electra Heart, arrives July 17 via Elektra Records.
