Brooklyn fuzz-rockers Dive (the side project of Beach Fossil’s Zachary Cole Smith) have changed their name to DIIV. Smith told Pitchfork that the band, who originally took their name from the Nirvana song, changed it “out of respect” to the original Dive, an early ’90s Belgian industrial band. Smith also noted that the new moniker would have little impact on the band’s sound, adding, “A name is nothing. I don’t really give a fuck what the band is called. I originated this project in a bedroom with no internet and didn’t know it would ever leave.”
With the new name also comes “Doused”, a new single off their upcoming debut LP Oshin. Unlike the overly-romantic “How Long Have You Known?”, this latest cut is a more upbeat New Wave number, with danceable drums and lively guitar built on the central, cutting bassline. Smith’s vocals also shift, becoming lost in the sea of noises to add an air of angst to the straight groove. Stream it below.
Oshin is due out June 26th via Captured Tracks. Peep the full tracklist below.
